A Guide To 4Chan slang

Do you have friends? Do you go outside? Do you have any semblance of a social life? If you answered yes to any of these questions then chances are you've never been on 4Chan.

4Chan is an image-based bulletin board website where anyone can post anything. The site was originally intended as a place for anime and manga lovers to communicate but due to it's anonymity the site soon also became a place for social outcasts, losers and neckbeards.

4Chan is not just a place to find great memes, it's also a place where you can be yourself without being judged. With boards ranging from the politically incorrect to LGBT there truly is a place for everyone. However, there is a whole new set of slang terms you will need to know to understand anything on the site. That's why I have compiled this list of 4Chan slang terms and their definitions to help you navigate the weird and wonderful site!

As this is 4Chan beware that many of these terms may be considered misogynistic and/or offensive and I recommend if you are not comfortable with that then you should probably stop reading. Keep in mind these are mostly meant as jokes and not meant to be taken seriously.

1) OP

Acronym for Original Poster. You will mainly see this in replies to threads (4Chan's name for chains of replies stemming from one post) in reference to the Original Poster.

2) Anon

This is the most basic and easy to understand 4Chan term. It's short for anonymous and is mainly used by the OP as a substitute for their own name.

3) Stacy

Stacy is a term used to describe women who are very attractive and have a lot of relationship experience. They are the nines or tens that every single guy wants. A particular group of 4Chan users known as Incels (involuntary celibates) have a burning hatred for Stacies but would definitely date one if given have the chance.

4) Chad

Now we're onto the fun ones. The Incel's arch nemesis. Chads are the social butterfly Alpha males who have Stacies lining up for them. Quite often they are smug assholes with no redeeming qualities or atleast that's how 4Chan sees them. Most people on 4Chan HATE Chads and yet still dream of one day being a Chad.

5) Thot

While this term was originally an acronym for That Hoe Over There it seems to have transcended it's originally meaning and taken on a new definition. The term is heavily debated due to many people on 4Chan believing all women are Thots and thus the term can be used loosely to identify any female or it can also be used more similarly to it's original meaning and only be used to describe women who exhibit a large amount of thotty behaviour. 6) Tard

Short for retard. Keep in mind this term is not a mockery of retardation but instead think of it the way the word would have been used years ago, not as an attack on the differently abled but just a word.

7)Trap

The question is centuries old. Written of in many sacred texts. Many men spend their hole lives isolated from the world pondering this one question... Are traps gay?

Traps are males who dress like females online. They are different from transgenders as they usually retain their male physiology. As I mentioned it is often debated whether or not these creatures are homosexual... I'll leave that decision up to you.

Well kids I hope you enjoyed your trip into the cesspit known as 4Chan. I would advise anyone who is not top tier edgyboi to stay well away. Without a solid grasp of how to use 4Chan, typical 4Chan etiquette and some very good ad block 4Chan can seem like a pretty terrible place but if you take the time to watch a YouTube video or two on how to use the site, take the time to learn what you can and can't say and get yourself some very, very good ad block it can be a pretty wonderful place.
